Back in August I noticed something about my working sessions with AI. We would talk a problem through and land on a decision I felt good about, then move straight on to the next thing. Nothing held on to that decision unless I remembered to write it down later. I usually did not.

So I gave my AI assistant one extra job. Any time we agree on something that matters, it stops to ask whether to log it and tells me where it would go. I say yes, it writes the decision and the reason into my folder, then we keep working.

It takes five seconds, and it is the reason my decisions file has anything in it.

The AI Move

This is part three of a short series on building a business brain. Last week your decisions file got its own home, and this week you stop having to remember to fill it. If this is your first issue, parts one and two are waiting at theunstoppableai.com/newsletter.

The move is a skill. A skill is a set of instructions Claude saves and follows whenever you call on it, so you only explain the job once. This one does two things every time you start work: it reads your whole business folder, then it logs decisions as you make them.

Build it in its own short chat. Open a new chat in the Claude desktop app with your business folder connected and paste the prompt below. It tells Claude you are designing a skill today, so no real business work happens in that chat. Claude asks you a few questions, writes out the finished instructions, and runs one practice decision so you can see what an entry looks like.

Keep that chat to the skill and nothing else. When you turn a chat into a skill, the chat is what it learns from, and a clean one gives you a clean skill.

Then open the menu on that chat and click Turn into skill.

From then on, start every work session with your start phrase, something like “Start my session.” Claude reads your folder, gets up to speed on your business, and asks whether to log each decision you land on until the chat ends.

The best time to write down a decision is the minute you make it, and now something remembers for you.

This week's prompt

Paste this into a new chat with your business folder connected. Use this chat only to build the skill, then turn it into a skill when you are done.

ROLE: You are helping me design a Claude skill. We are not doing any business work in this chat.

CONTEXT: My business folder is connected. It holds what my business knows, including a decisions file. The skill we are building will run at the start of every work session I have from now on.

REQUEST:
1. Ask me, one question at a time, what you need to know: the name of my decisions file, which file in my folder to read first, and the phrase I want to use to start a session.
2. Write the finished skill instructions in this chat. The skill has two jobs. First, when I say my start phrase, read my whole business folder before doing anything else, then tell me in one line that you are ready. Second, for the rest of that session, watch for any moment I settle something about my business and ask me in one line whether to log it.
3. Include these logging rules in the instructions. Every entry goes at the top of my decisions file with four parts: the date, what I decided, why, and what would make me reopen it. If I give no reason, ask for one. Never delete or rewrite an old entry. When I change my mind, add a new entry that names the one it replaces. Before recommending anything, check the decisions file and tell me plainly if a suggestion goes against a logged decision.
4. Run one practice round with a made-up decision so I can see what an entry looks like. Show me the entry here and do not write it to my file.
5. Then stop and tell me the chat is ready to turn into a skill.

I am also planning a small AI and business retreat in Greece for 2027. The interest list is open at theunstoppableai.com/retreat.
